Counseling Services

School Counselors at Explorer Middle School are available to all students and families for support services in academics, college and career readiness, and social and emotional learning. There is one school counselor for every grade at Explorer. You can find your school counselors contact information under the tab “Meet the Counselors”.

Classroom Lessons

Our school counselors lead classroom lessons at every grade to teach about social and emotional learning, academic success, and college/career readiness. We lead all classroom lessons on registration and help students pick the classes they want to take each school year in the Spring.

Individual Student Support

Our school counselors offer 1 on 1 check ins for any student who would like to meet with their school counselor. We can do counseling on personal, social, and academic needs during the school day. Sessions are kept confidential except when students disclose that they are being hurt, are hurting someone else, want to hurt themselves, or have given permission to share. Students can also be connected to mental health services for further support.

Restorative Practices

We offer restorative circles to all students and staff members who may be interested in mediation with another person at school. A restorative circle helps people resolve conflict, repair harm, and heal relationships. It creates a safe school climate where all voices can be heard and encourages respect for others.

Parent Guardian Support

School counselors are available by email, phone, or appointment to help parent guardians with concerns of any kind for their student. We can help you meet with teachers or other school staff by scheduling parent-teacher conferences. School counselors at Explorer are also a parent guardians main point of contact for any 504 accommodation plan needs.

Social Emotional Learning

Explorer Middle School has implemented a social emotional learning program, Character Strong. Our classrooms provide opportunities for students to learn social emotional learning skills such as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. They also teach character development such as patience, kindness, honesty, respect, forgiveness, commitment, and humility.
